Set up your floating player on Windows

  1. Download the Windows version

After purchase, choose Windows — 64-bit on your download page. We also email personal download links. If you already own VideoHover, sign in with your purchase email.

  2. Extract the whole ZIP

Use Extract All to unpack the download into a folder. Keep its files together and open VideoHover.exe from that folder, rather than from inside the ZIP.

  3. Paste a YouTube link and press play

Copy the address of the video you want to watch and paste it into the app. Choose a video that can play outside YouTube.

  4. Move, resize and pin

Put the player beside the part of your work you need to see. Turn on the pin, then switch to another app. Unpin the window when you want other windows in front.

Follow along without switching tabs

For a coding lesson, leave the player in one corner and your editor in the rest of the screen. Pause the lesson while you try a step, then continue from the same player. The same arrangement works for following a spreadsheet walkthrough or taking notes.

Use the app’s bookmarks to keep useful YouTube links together and return to a lesson later. A bookmark saves a link; it does not save an offline copy of the video.

Before you buy

VideoHover needs an internet connection and plays YouTube videos that allow embedding. Private, age-restricted, region-blocked, removed or embedding-disabled videos may not play. It does not bypass YouTube restrictions or download videos for offline viewing.

Some full-screen apps and games can cover a pinned player. Try working in a normal window if the video disappears behind another app. VideoHover is for Windows and Mac computers; phones, tablets, Linux and Chromebooks are not supported.

If all you need is a video floating above your work, your browser may already provide it. Compare VideoHover with browser picture-in-picture before deciding.

Windows questions

Is this a Chrome extension?

No. VideoHover is a separate desktop app. You paste a YouTube URL into its player rather than installing an extension in your browser.

Which Windows download do I need?

The purchase includes the Windows 64-bit build. There is no separate 32-bit Windows build. If you are unsure whether your computer can run it, contact us before buying.

Can I use my purchase on a Mac too?

Yes. Windows, Apple Silicon Mac and Intel Mac downloads are included in the same purchase. See the Mac setup guide.
