Choose the right Mac download
Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If it lists an Apple chip, choose Mac — Apple Silicon. If it lists an Intel processor, choose Mac — Intel. Both downloads are included, and both Mac versions are signed and notarized by Apple.
VideoHover is a macOS desktop app. The Mac download does not run on an iPhone or iPad. If you are unsure about your Mac or macOS version, ask us before purchasing.
Install and play your first video
Get your download
Choose the matching Mac version on the page shown after payment, or use your emailed download link. Returning customers can sign in to download again.
Unzip and move to Applications
Open the ZIP, then move VideoHover.app into your Applications folder. Open the app from there.
Paste the YouTube URL
Copy a video link from your browser and paste it into VideoHover. Start playback, then drag and resize the player to leave room for your work.
Pin the window
Turn on the pin and switch to your notes, editor or another app. Turn the pin off when you want other windows to cover the player.
When Safari picture-in-picture is enough
Safari already offers a movable, resizable picture-in-picture window for compatible web videos. If that is all you need, try it first. VideoHover is an option if you prefer opening YouTube links in a separate app and keeping a collection of video bookmarks there.
Our browser picture-in-picture comparison explains both approaches, including their limitations.
Before you buy
VideoHover needs an internet connection and plays YouTube videos that allow embedding. Private, age-restricted, region-blocked, removed or embedding-disabled videos may not play. It does not bypass YouTube restrictions or download videos for offline viewing.
Some full-screen apps and games can cover a pinned player. Try working in a normal window if the video disappears behind another app. VideoHover is for Windows and Mac computers; phones, tablets, Linux and Chromebooks are not supported.
If all you need is a video floating above your work, your browser may already provide it. Compare VideoHover with browser picture-in-picture before deciding.
Mac questions
Do I need a Safari extension?
No. Install VideoHover in Applications and paste links into it. The app does not require a Safari extension.
Will pinning work over every full-screen app?
It is not guaranteed. Full-screen apps can cover the player. Use a normal app window if you need a predictable side-by-side workflow.
What if I bought the wrong download?
Your purchase includes both Mac architectures and Windows. Sign in and choose the other download; you do not need to buy again.
